Scope and booking

These terms apply to private tuition from Paul Fong, trading as The STEM Coach. Lessons are booked in advance at an agreed time, online or in person where arranged. The subject, frequency, session length, price and payment schedule are confirmed in writing before booking. For students under 18, the booking is made by a parent or carer. Contact: hello@stemcoach.uk. Business address and other required booking information are supplied with the written booking confirmation.

Payments

Payment is due weekly, monthly or in advance by the agreed method. Block bookings are paid in full before the first session. Any change to price or arrangements is discussed and agreed before it applies.

Cancellations and rescheduling

Please give at least 24 hours’ notice. A later cancellation or missed lesson may incur a charge up to the agreed lesson fee, reflecting the reasonable loss from reserving that time and taking account of any saved costs or replacement booking. Exceptional circumstances are considered fairly. If Paul cancels, an alternative session or refund for the affected lesson is offered. Refunds for unused block-booked sessions are assessed fairly, allowing only reasonable, justified cancellation costs and respecting statutory rights.

Cooling-off rights

Where a consumer booking is made online, by email or by phone, you normally have 14 days from entering the contract to cancel it. Email hello@stemcoach.uk with your name, booking details and a clear cancellation statement; no reason is required. If you expressly request lessons during that period, you may need to pay a proportionate amount for services already delivered. The right ends after full performance only where you gave express consent to early performance and acknowledged that consequence. Any refund due is made within the applicable statutory deadline, normally 14 days after cancellation. A model cancellation form is included below.

Teaching and student responsibilities

Tuition is delivered with reasonable care and skill and tailored to support understanding, progress and confidence. Students are expected to attend, engage respectfully and complete agreed practice where possible. No particular examination grade or outcome is guaranteed; progress also depends on attendance, effort and independent study.

Safeguarding and behaviour

Parents and carers remain responsible for supervision at home during online lessons. Paul retains his safeguarding responsibilities. A session may be paused or ended if behaviour creates a safety concern or prevents teaching. Any charge or refund is considered fairly in the circumstances rather than automatically forfeited. See the safeguarding page.

Problems and your rights

Please raise problems promptly at hello@stemcoach.uk so they can be addressed. Where tuition is not delivered with reasonable care and skill, your statutory remedies may include repeat performance or a price reduction. Nothing in these terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. These terms do not limit your statutory consumer rights.

Personal information

Personal information is used to arrange and provide support, administer the service and meet safeguarding and legal responsibilities. Relevant disclosures may be needed for those purposes. See the privacy notice.
